Zine Winter was a collective project for friends to pool their amazing powers of creativity in defiance of winter’s inherent ‘slowing’ properties. It was also an excuse for us to orchestrate a gigantic variety show at the fantastic and legendary Philadelphia art institution, Space 1026. It was also SO MUCH FUN but SO MUCH WORK that we will assuredly be doing it again… several years from now.

The performances have ended but the zines are eternal. Or at least their spirits are? No, even those must die. But for the next 10-80 years, depending on your habits of eating and exercise (and risk-taking, I suppose), you can harness some of these spirits as they were intended to be harnessed: as unassuming packets of stapled paper.

What I mean to say is: ZINES FOR SALE!

Winter blues is perhaps the worst of the blues genres and by winter blues we of course mean melancholy which, as we now know, is not a form of blues at all but a black or, more precisely, an imbalance (abundance) of black bile in the long disproven humoral theory.

To balance the bile in ourselves and others, we asked a bunch of really fantastic folks to create a zine 1) of any variety, 2) this winter, 3) please. In return, we promised to print and assemble AKA publish the finished products. We’re a lot of things but we aren’t liars when it comes to promises about zines this year.

First Single From Ignore That Noise By Scott Churchman

The void left in the wake of Scott Churchman’s last album (2010’s self-titled album, SGMG07) is considerable. After a long wait, his new album, Ignore That Noise, is slated for release on cassette tape and digital download March 5th, 2013. It’s reliably dark and careful while still stretching itself into jarring new forms, as one may expect from such a cloudy wonder of a man.

“Above The Sky,” the first single from Ignore That Noise, is as deliberate and unnerving as it is evocative. But evocative of what? The unknown? Fear in general? We do not know. The emotion is there but a fog prevails. Sounds roll steadily along like hooves over cobblestone and curtains, waves of deep mystery bloom and recede.
